Cooper Tank #11

Cooper Tank #11

Cooper Tank #11 was photographed by Leon Bernstein in Brooklyn, New York, at the former Cooper Tank waste container welding facility. This piece is part of a series of images that documents the story of Cooper Tank’s three-generation family business whose factory was bought out to make room for new developments in the area. The series points to the ephemeral nature of neighborhoods and frames the stories left behind by the 30-year operating facility before its move in 2015. This particular image is of a well-weathered waste container which was abandoned outside of an empty Bushwick warehouse. The scratches and details appear to be hand-painted by Mother Nature, evoking the feeling of an Abstract Impressionist painting.
